Yeovil Show Goer Pops Question at Yeovil Show

Yeovil Show

35 year old Laura Curtis from Gillingham, Dorset used the annual Yeovil Show as the venue for popping the question to her long term partner Peter Davies earlier today (Saturday 14th July) at the annual Yeovil Show.

The ceremony took place in the Rose Tower, an ornamental folly that is one of four marking the boundaries of Barwick Park on which the showground is located.

Laura and her partner Peter Davies have been together for ten years, and have two children, Madison and Savanna, aged 13 and 9.

Yeovil ShowPeter had no idea what Laura was planning but having got over the initial shock, was delighted to accept Laura’s hand in marriage.

At the ceremony, Laura’s oldest daughter Madison asked for Peter to formally adopt her which he also gratefully accepted.

The couple have been through a number of difficult events in recent years, including a botched operation which has left Laura needing to use crutches.  All of these have conspired to get in the way of any marriage plans.

However, when Laura read on social media that the Yeovil Show were looking for someone to make use of the Rose Tower for a marriage proposal, she saw this as a perfect opportunity.

Commenting, Laura said:  It looked really lovely – the organisers had made a real effort to make it look really special for the occasion and it was very romantic.  We were all in tears at the end of it said Laura. ‘

Sam Mackenzie Green, Yeovil Show Event Director is delighted to have played host to such a special event.  ‘The Rose Tower is a folly that has never served any particular purpose, other than to look very beautiful.  We really wanted to put it to good use at Yeovil this year and we and may even look at applying for a wedding licence for it in the future.’
